Well, I just came back from our Juniors camp today, and I think it was a GOOD CAMP. Labels: church
I have many people I'm thankful for:
1. My camp committee - Yihui, Jane, Selena, Michelle Ng, Yingxuan, Marcus, Christopher, Joanna and Delia. Every one of them did their job well, and I didn't have to do a thing.
2. The seniors, a.k.a saikang warriors. They really helped out a lot, including coming up with a very structured night game, improvising on our games, buying stuff from the convenience store, cleaning toilets...
3. Rev Wilfred Leow, for teaching us about Lectio Divina, Bible study, praying for people, and spending so much of his time with us, away from his family. Also Uncle Sunny, who had to constantly open the gate for random people coming in and out of church at late hours, opening the seminar room, helping us with the mattresses, etc.
4. Rev Chong for buying us potong ice-cream, and Aunty Julie for the spaghetti, and Aunty Beow Tuan for the nasi lemak and beehoon.
5. The worship exco, who came down on Tuesday to share about worship with us (Uncle Su Ming), to lead an extended worship session, and praying for all the youths who stepped up to the call.
6. All the campers, who participated enthusiastically; even if I thought the games weren't fun they still appreciated it all, and for being good angels to their mortals.
7. Most of all, we want to thank God - for the good weather, for keeping everyone safe, for allowing them to have an encounter with Him when they really needed it, for the growing of 3 person's hands to allow us to increase our faith in a way that is not head knowledge, and for answering the prayers of so many people.
If nothing else, this was an interesting camp:
- Some of the shorter hands of people who had uneven hands grew longer with prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit
- One of my sisters slipped and fell and hit her head, while the other nearly got hit by a taxi. Nicholas had fever and vomiting, Camilla was perpetually sniffing, Callista was on medication and had an ingrown toenail, Michelle Foo cut her finger on the water gun, etc.
- Mostly everyone got to put army camouflage paint on their faces, and they all looked so cool!
- The black market set up for the angel & mortal game was quite successful
- On the last night, SOME PEOPLE took my cards, so I couldn't play bridge, and I tried to sleep with some 20 other people in the room making noise. Obviously I failed.
- I've finally managed to learn the whole l e r o y gang story, and why I'm the commander-mentor.
- I'm also convinced that Marcus, Chris and Jeremy ought to make a published story about it. Either novel, short stories, comic strips or television.
- It was my one and only experience of being Camp Commandant. Maybe I wasn't calm enough, or yelled too much, and I don't think people really respected me, but it was quite fun.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
The Xuan
