The wonderful people in this memorable trip to KSA:
Miss Lim Weili – She’s just like one of us! More of a friend than a teacher to us. Especially when we tease her about HIM. Haha! She always uses words like ‘xiao’, announces that she’s going out of the room to fart, and talks about her mao-mao!
Shiqi – LOLLOLLOL! Amazing how she can survive without breakfast. Plus she has cool boots. Really! She was great during that last minute presentation we had to make in front of the 1st graders.
Jolene – She was super funny when recounting her home stay experience! And she can really shop. In the first half she spent more money than I had brought! And she bought back this huge teddy bear, which they tried to squeeze into this cardboard box.
Cassandra – Cass Beer! She’s always saying how her hair has static, haha... and she was very helpful when I was trying to get the wireless connection on my stupid laptop. She took some very interesting neoprints with her buddy. Hmm.
Melissa – I think it’s so cool that she plays dota. Seriously. And we agreed that we were being dian deng pao when we went in a taxi with her buddy and mine. And the way she poses for photos is really funny sometimes.
Theophila – I never knew she could be so funny! She can just keep saying funny lame stuff non-stop, in funny fake voices! And she’s too tall. Not fair. And I wish I had her camera functions leh. About the buddy thing, I think she was very good about it. If it were me, I’d be complaining non-stop.
Yanyao – Thanks for listening to my crazy idea about the talent-sucking machine. And she really bought a lot of stuff for her younger brother. I think she’s become a pro at doing all the pipette stuff for our experiment. And she also watches Nodame Cantabile!
Wern Chia – She is seriously the most happening girl here. She plays billiards or whatever until goodness knows how late, comes back the latest, bathes the latest, sleeps the latest. And we formed the “take a lot of pictures with everyone club” together!
Teresa – Yay, my roommate! I would have really been in trouble without her help in everything, from helping me wash the chocolate-milk stained pants to always jaga-ing when I’m bathing. She’s always got some snack stashed in the cupboard, and does her work conscientiously every night! And it’s great talking to her when the lights are out and we can’t sleep.
William – Samara permed his hair! Very daring of him, I must say. I envy how he has the ability to make friends with practically everyone – Singaporean, Korean or Russian. He also eats the most, plays soccer with all of them, and always goes to Dae Sik and Jae Hyun’s room.
Ji Jeong – My home stay buddy! She’s really nice, she likes to sleep, shop, and sings superbly! Her family rocks, they’re so kind to me. And she had a boyfriend, but never told me, even when I asked about the whole girls being the rarity situation. The nerve!
Ji Eun – My other buddy! Her English is PRO. I have a much easier time communicating with her than anyone else with their buddies, I believe. And she’s quite tall too. Silly girl’s dieting now, even though she totally doesn’t need to. She also plays the violin and piano. She and Ji Soo ought to get together.
Ji Soo – Haha, we decided he looks like a teddy bear, albeit with a sharper face, as Ji Eun kindly pointed out. He’s bad at Hanja, but his Hangeul pronunciation is good and clear. Everytime we tease him about Ji Eun he always shakes his head / finger saying ‘no, no, no.’
Coby – He’s got no eyes! And he really looks like some Chinese character, I just can’t figure out who. And I think he’s kind of scared of me, because every time I see him I’ll ask him about Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi. He also smiles a lot.
Cheol Huan – He’s the ultimate at teasing Ji Eun and Ji Soo. And once when we went out he just kept giving that all-knowing smirk at Ji Soo, while pretending to be innocent of any wrong thought! His jacket had the mao-mao too!
Jeong Huan – Whoa, he’s quite forward when it comes to his buddy, haha! And his singing isn’t bad, even when he screams the high notes. He’s rather nice, and he had to interview NJ people at the end about the programme.
Dae Sik – This guy isn’t human. He plays both the guitar and violin insanely well, is the violin SL, the concert master, student conductor, has perfect pitch, is the acapella head, plays billiards like a pro, plays soccer, and is nice and funny. He ought to be cloned. Or shot.
Song Jin – He’s very funny when he doesn’t understand what we’re saying, and looks blur. And he learned billiards from beggars! I felt sorry for him when he had to accompany us at the duty-free shop. But at least he was gentlemanly enough to offer to carry the bag.
Yosub – Yoda! That guy merrily dumped 2 presents in bags for me to bring up on the plane right when we were going to leave the school! Obviously the heavier one was for Jess. It was really nice of him to take us out and help with the fireworks.
In Hyi – He’s still learning new Singlish! And he achieved this emo look. He’s a self proclaimed mugger, and always comes in halfway when we’re eating late-night chicken. Maybe he’ll really become some CEO and travel around the world!
Mi Kyeong – She’s so sweet, and was the first one to tell us that we were going out on Sunday. I hear she told some of them some ghost stories that freaked them out. And she can be blur enough to lend someone her phone, walk away and promptly forget that she lent it.
Jae Hyun – He wasn’t an official buddy, but really seemed like one. He’s really funny, laughs a lot, is ever ready to take a photo, a pro at taping up boxes, always orders more food for us, always says sorry, and would make a good house-husband!
Hyun Bin – He’s really tall! And the first thing he said after I introduced myself as Jess’ friend was to say, “You’re Moo-Moo?” His English has this nice accent, I think he also lived in England or something for a time. He has a marvellous ‘stone’ face during photos.
Unfortunately I can't remember all the buddies' names, especially not the homestay ones. But I remember them by labelling them:
Cass' homestay buddy, who was in my buddy's English class.
Shiqi's 1st buddy, reminded me of a polar bear first time I saw him, cause of his coat.
Jolene's homestay buddy, is it Min-Gyu? He's VERY TALL.
Mel's 1st buddy, I think he took a photo of us on the last night.
Jolene's 2nd buddy, looks perpetually sleepy, friend of my buddy.
Teresa's 1st buddy, we went for his Chinese class.
Girl in the Korean Percussion group. also starred in that Christian performance thing.
Guy who looks like a gu-niang, also plays french horn in the orchestra, and singing in musical.
Girl who looks like a guy, seen with another girl in the dorm.
Girl mistaken for tomboy, is a 1st violinist of the orchestra.
Girl from my buddy's chemistry class with good English, in the kendo club.
My buddies' friends, the group of girls I ate dinner with after the home stay.
From the English discussion team:
Eugene, quite a short fellow.
Guy who watches anime, plays trumpet, in acapella.
Guy with a lot of white hair, in robot soccer club and buddy's chem class.
Above all, I think the people there were what made the trip the most enjoyable.
